The Last Will and Testament of William HARPUR of Lisadian dated

29th February 1872

In the name of God Amen I William Harpur of Lisadian in the County of Armagh do hereby make and publish this as and for my last Will and Testament in manner and form following hereby revoking all former and other Wills and Testament dispositions by me at anytime heretofore made. I direct my Executors hereinafter named to pay and discharge all my just debts funeral and Testamentary Expenses. I give devise and bequeath unto my son Robert Harpur all that and those the holding in Rathcarbery as now occupied by him together also with that certain portion of land in Lisnalee otherwise Lower Rathcarbery. Also the three fields extending of land in Lisnalee otherwise Lower Rathcarbery. Also the three fields extending from Boyd's house to Portnorris Road and Stripe of land along the [Mearing] Weir and the two fields on East side of Hill with Searr's and Boyle's late holdings respectively. I give devise and bequeath to my son William Harpur all my farm in Lisadian with the buildings and improvements theron. I also give devise and bequeath to my said son William Harpur all the remainder of my Lisnalee or Lower Rathcarbery lands not hereinbefore devised to my said son Robert Harpur. I also give devise and bequeath unto my said son William Harpur the use and occupation of his own middle room in my Dwelling house and also a portion of the Kitchen for cooking purposes. I further bequeath unto my said son William Harpur ten cows four horses two two year old Hefers. And as to the remainder of my stock in trade I direct the same to be sold and be formed into a fund for my daughters hereinafter mentioned. I also give devise and bequeath to my said son William Harpur all crop of which I shall die possessed Subject to the payment thereout of all rent and rates due or owing in respect of the land from which the same shall be produced. I request my two sons Robert and William to purchase Bert Weir's farm (out of their own money) whenever the same shall be sold. Robert to have that portion thereof now in possession of W McKinstry and the remainder therof now in my own possession to go to my son William. I give devise and bequeath my Newton Rostrevor farm also my Drumgreenagh Keady farm to my said sons Robert and William (subject as hereinafter mentioned) in equal shares and proportions said last mentioned devise not to take effect for the space of six years after my decease during which time the profits rents to arise therefrom are to accumulate and form part of the fund hereinbefore alluded to as applicable for the use of my daughters as aforesaid. I give devise and bequeath unto my daughters Margaret Elizabeth and Matilda the sum of Eight hundred Pounds each (my daughter Isabella having been provided for by me on the occasion of her marriage with William Henry Lawson) said principal sums respectively to be retained and invested on good and sufficient security by my Executors hereinafter named until the marriage or respective marriages of my said daughters or any of them at which time or times the said sums respectively shall be by a proper Deed or Deeds of Marriage Settlement secured to such of my daughters so happening to marry as aforesaid and the issue of the marriage or marriages so by them respectively contracted. And I declare it to be my will that from the date of my decease and until the solemnisation of any such marriages as aforesaid my Executors hereinafter named shall pay to my said daughters respectively interest on their presumptive legacies at the rate of Four percent per Annum such payment of interest to be made by my said Executors on every first day of May and first day of November in each year. And in the event of the death of any or either of my said daughters before their marriage as aforesaid then the legacy or legacies hereinbefore bequeathed to her or them so dying shall go over and be paid to my two sons Robert and William share and share alike. I give devise and bequeath unto each of my said daughters so long as she shall remain unmarried the use of the Upper room also the bedroom called the blue room together with the Parlour and large bedroom over the same with the free use of the furniture at present in and upon the same respectively. I direct my Executors hereinafter named immediately after my decease as they shall in the exercise of their discretion see fit to call in and collect all debts rents and arrears of rents that shall be due to me and apply the same in the accumulation of the fund I have heretofore directed to be formed to pay the legacies bequeathed to my said daughters. And in the case a deficiency shall still exist in the amount of said fund I direct my far Rathcarbery farm to be sold and the proceeds of such sale to be applied towards making up such deficiency. I direct my two sons Robert and William at their joint expense to supply all such fuel as may be required in or about my dwelling house save as regards the apartments hereintofore given to my said daughters who are at their own expense respectively to supply same and which is to be drawn for them by my said sons Robert and William Harpur. And i direct my son William Harpur to supply such of my daughters as shall remain unmarried at the time of my death and so long as she or they shall continue unmarried with the milk and butter of two newly calved cows in each year one of which shall be supplied at May and the other at November but so nevertheless that said cows shall be and remain the property of the said William Harpur. I direct my Executors hereinafter named to pay my daughter Mary Jane Sweeny (widow of the Reverend William Sweeny) a sum of Twelve Pounds per Annum to be applied by her towards the maintenance and Education of her son Robert Sweeny such payments to commence on my said Grandson reaching the age of Twelve years and to continue til he arrives at the age of Twenty years the said sum of Twelve Pounds per Annum to be payable out of and charged upon my Newton and Drumgreenagh Farms in equal proportions. And in the event of my said daughter Mary Jane Sweeny marrying again with the sanction and to the satisfaction of my Executors I allow her to be paid a sum of Eight Pounds per Annum during her life such payment to commence on my said Grandson Robert Sweeny arriving at the age of twenty years or sooner in the event of his dying before reaching that age. I bequeath unto my two grandsons William Harpur Arbuthnott and Charles Arbuthnott a sum of One hundred Pounds each. To my Grandson William Harpur son of Robert Harpur a sum of One hundred Pounds and to my grandson Robert Harpur junior a sum of Fifty Pounds. To my Grandson Robert Sweeny son of the Revd William Sweeny a sum of One hundred Pounds and to the five daughters of my son Robert Harpur a sum of One hundred Pounds to be equally divided share and share alike among them. And I declare it to be my will that said several legacies shall be paid by my said sons Robert and William Harpur in equal shares and proportions. And as to the rest residue and remainder of my property of every nature and kind whatever not hereinbefore disposed of I give devise and bequeath the same unto my said two sons Robert and William Harpur in equal shares and proportions as residuary Legatees. And I herby nominate constitute and appoint my said two sons Robert and William Harpur and my son-in-law William Henry Lawson of Warrenpoint to be the Executors and Trustees of this my Will. In Witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this Twenty ninth day of February one thousand eight hundred and seventy two.
